Want to Confess

Own the impact

Write an apology that does not ask for reassurance.

Build a specific apology around what you did, what it cost, and what you can repair. No excuses are added for you.

How should it sound?

Responsibility comes before explanation

A useful apology lets the other person recognize their experience in your words. Name the behavior and impact before describing your intention or fear.

Repair is strongest when it is observable and within your control. Do not promise forgiveness, trust, or a future with no conflict.

Examples

Three ways the words can begin

01

“I interrupted you and dismissed what you were trying to say. That was disrespectful, and I am sorry.”

02

“I gave you false information and took away your ability to decide with the facts.”

03

“I cannot undo the hurt, but I can answer honestly and change how I follow through.”

Questions

Should I explain why I did it?

Only after responsibility is clear. Keep the explanation brief and do not use it to cancel the impact.

What if they do not forgive me?

An apology cannot require forgiveness. Offer accountability and repair, then respect the other person’s timeline and boundary.
